It’s important to note a few things here to understand this passage, especially in relation to the modern society we live in today. First, this passage specifically addresses women. However, when it comes to fashion, women’s clothing tends to offer more variety in terms of how modest or immodest it is. 

Secondly, this scripture isn’t saying that dressing modestly means dressing “plain” or never wearing jewelry or doing your hair. To understand how the Bible defines modesty, focus on these two words mentioned: decency and propriety. This means wearing clothing and accessories that don’t attract improper attention and aren’t revealing or degrading to others. 

Additionally, the passage states that the most important and attractive characteristic in a woman is not her outward appearance but her actions and worship. Whereas society, social media, and personal experiences may have you feeling like you need to dress in more revealing clothing to be considered attractive or spend money on expensive clothes and accessories to fit in or be trendy, scripture says these things aren’t what matter.
