Halloween Costumes Are For One Night…Your Faith is Forever

One of the excitements of Halloween night in the neighborhood and fall festivals at church is choosing Halloween costumes. Dressing up as someone different for one evening is fun.

Children may choose to be a ballerina, an astronaut, or their favorite animal. Parents may dress up the entire family in matching costumes that tell a story or mimic a tv show or popular cartoon. Within the next couple of weeks, you will likely see photos popping up on your Instagram and Facebook pages showing who people decided they wanted to be for the night.

While Halloween costumes are fun for one night, how you show up to your friends, family, co-workers, and acquaintances daily truly matters the most. 

Representing God Through Bold Faith

How we represent ourselves and our faith to those around us matters. 2 Corinthians 5:20 reminds us that we are “ambassadors for Christ.” This means every Christian is an official, accredited representative of Jesus Christ. It is therefore our responsibility to rightfully represent Him in all we say and do, by how we live our life and share our faith. 

Deciding who you want to be on Halloween may be fun, but choosing to boldly represent whose you are every single day is vital. 

Do you represent God with a bold faith? Here are some ways you can start today:

1. Don’t hide your belief in God 

If your family doesn’t believe in God or your co-workers leave you out of conversations because they know you are a Christian and they aren’t, it can be hard to boldly share your faith. However, even in these environments, the Bible tells us not to be ashamed of the gospel in which we believe. 

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord…” 

(2 Timothy 1:7-8a, NIV)

So, don’t be afraid to proudly answer “Yes!” when someone asks you if you are a Christian. Just be sure to shower them with kindness, grace, and love as we are called to do as ambassadors for Jesus. 

2. Ask people if you can pray for them 

As a Christian, you believe in the power of prayer to truly make a difference in people’s lives. One way to boldly share your faith is to pray for people and to pray with people. If a friend or family member is going through a hard time, offer to spend time in prayer together. 

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

(James 5:16, NIV)

Oftentimes even people who don’t believe in God or have a strong relationship with Him will still accept an invitation to pray together. Powerful things can happen in these moments. 

3. Wear your faith on your sleeve… literally
